Yesterday, when starting my workout…I decided to try something new. I made the choice to do a little mindset preparation. How many times do I get ready to workout while coming from a place of frustration with my body, guilt over what I haven’t been doing for my health, or stressed about the time constraints? Not sure if that resonates with anyone else out there, but I have had enough!
So yesterday, as I put on my running shoes, tied those laces, and prepped for my MIIS workout, I decided to switch the self talk from a negative head space to a loving one. How many times do we actually give ourselves permission to speak to ourselves in a loving way? I mean really? If you’re anything like me – it’s almost an embarrassment to be gentle with myself. Like – I am going to get fat headed, or become egotistical and selfish, prideful even…and while those traits can be bad, they can also be good – all things in moderation – right?
As I laced up those shoes, set up my playlist and started warming up, the inner dialogue became – “I am so proud of you that….”, “I deserve to spend this time on myself and heal my body”, “Today I am going to ENJOY the feeling of air in my lungs and feeling alive”. “I am connecting with nature around me and plan to treasure and enjoy every life I come into contact with. I am here to be present, alive and happy!”
Okay – so all this may sound like a bit of mumbo jumbo to you, but, hold on just a second, stick with me here. Believe it or not, there is scientific evidence to back the concept that having our mind in the right place, has a physical impact on our bodies.
To me, this has almost seemed to be basic, common sense for years now. For instance, it was proven ages ago that if we have a thought 7 times, it generates a new groove in our brain…physically. Soooooo, this whole world of the mind body connection just blows me away. It makes perfect sense…if you think really hard. Haha – jk! Recently, new evidence and research on the human brain is exposing the physical manifestation of emotions and beliefs in that amazing supercomputer between our ears. We have a miracle up there lovelies!
Anyhow, I digress. Long story short, our mindset has more to do with the effectiveness of our workouts than all the healthy food and burpees in the world. Without that, we’re kind of like, working against ourselves. It’s as if, we’re salmon swimming upstream, and we’ve decided to make the current that makes our life harder. Dig me?
So, after a ton of words (thanks if you’re still here), what’s the point? I mean – did it do any good?
Well, here’s the deal – the entire workout was SUCH a treat. By the end, I felt so happy, so calm and like I had filled my cup to the brim. It left me with oodles of love to share with my peeps and the best part is, it left me HUNGRY for more. When I got done, I felt so spacious, and for some reason – even though I always seem to be strapped for time, I seemed to have a ton of time left over that night, and I truly can’t wait for leg day – yeah baby! Scouts honor – no hesitation here! Talk about a Monday makeover!
So as I leave you with a thought for the day – I hope you have a chance to remember the gold that you are, and that you have inside of that beautiful soul of yours. Even if you don’t see the gold in the mirror yet – keep looking – because it’s in there – we just have to see it. So, I’m here to remind you that YOU are a miracle, and pure magic inside – don’t you forget it! There is power in each one of us to change our story. So why not make ONE decision today – to take you a step closer to the story you’ve been holding inside of you? I mean – what could it hurt – right? Do it – you’ll feel so amazing. Even if it’s just prepping a healthy lunch for tomorrow, or getting up a bit earlier so your commute is less stressful. You deserve it!
